As Wisconsin joins the growing list of states allowing high school athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL), TMJ4 News turned to attorney Eido Walny, founder of Walny Legal Group LLC, for legal perspective on the policy’s rollout.
“I’m happy to see that Wisconsin has adopted it,” Walny stated. “I think it’s great for the student-athletes, those who can market some of their NIL rights. It’s a nice opportunity for them. But again, it’s going to be the Wild West here for a while.”
Walny also noted that “the rules for NIL in Wisconsin through the WIAA are a little complicated,” underscoring the importance of legal guidance as families and student-athletes navigate new opportunities.
Having executed Wisconsin’s first NIL deal shortly after the policy went into effect, Walny Legal Group remains a key legal resource in this emerging space.
